Smells very slightly of cheese. Lots of development and a very dry finish. Slightly fruitless. The 1995 was the only famous vintage that was not picked early here. A little too mature on the nose for a long life? (JR)

The 1995 Brunello di Montalcino exhibits a dark ruby/garnet color as well as a big, smoky, earthy, slightly oaky nose with notes of licorice and red currants. Serious on the palate, with high tannin, and an austere, backward personality that will appeal to readers with 19th century tastes, this formidable, powerful, muscular, tannic Brunello requires 2-3 more years of cellaring; it should keep for 15 years. Fresh garnet-ruby. Spice and vanilla on the fruit-driven nose, but notably more international than in the past. Well-structured and long, with a repeating vanilla element and a slight tannic astringency on the finish.
