Mid ruby with orange tinges. Complex and exotic red fruit and eucalyptus with a hint of passion fruit. Smooth, minty cherry and raspberry palate with underlying finely ground tannins giving the fruit a tactile kick. A Barolo that will divide opinion. (WS)

Oddly packed with tropical fruit scents of ripe papaya or star fruit, the Parusso 2020 Barolo Perarmando otherwise has aromas far removed from what a characteristic Nebbiolo tastes like. There's a note of Starburst candy with the waxy fruit, gardenia flower and exotic spice. The bouquet is crazy, and you get even more intensity in the 2020 vintage. The tannins are chalky in this wine, and it ends with a hint of bitter amaro liqueur. This is a 24,000-bottle production. Perarmando is a blend of fruit from Bussia, Mosconi and Mariondino.
The 2020 Barolo Perarmando is a classic Parusso wine. Rose petal, sage, mint and cedar soar out of the glass as this translucent, nuanced Barolo shows off its personality. The stem component is quite high, and that very much comes through, especially in the wine's aromatic profile. As always, the Perarmando is a blend taken from a collection of estate vineyards, mostly in Bussia.
