Score 90/100 · Drink 1998-2006, Robert Parker, Oct 1998

The dark garnet/plum-colored 1993 Brunello di Montalcino is a perfumed, complex, and complete wine. It offers a penetratingly intense nose of wood fire, sweet cherry jam, fruitcake, tobacco, and spice. Full-bodied and rich, this evolved Brunello should be consumed over the next 7-8 years. Rosso di Montalcinos can be a good introduction to Brunello. Many readers actually prefer Rossos, because they are bottled quickly, and tend to possess more exuberant, lively fruit than the Brunellos, which are kept significantly longer in cask.
