Score 90/100 · Drink 2023-2032, Neal Martin, Nov 2022

The 2018 Volnay Carelle Sous La Chapelle 1er Cru is showing some reduction on the nose that does not budge despite rigorous aeration. Yet, there seems to be decent, clean dark berry fruit behind it. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, fleshy with fine grip. It lacks some complexity on the finish, as if the summer warmth blurred away its potential nuances. It does improve with aeration. Drink over the next 8 to 10 years. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.
