The 2017 Clos Margalaine is a very pretty and nuanced wine. Sweet dried red cherry, wild flowers, mint, sweet tobacco and spice add attractive Cabernet savoriness to a core of Merlot fruit. Sumptuous, bold and racy, the 2017 is showing quite a bit better today than it did en primeur. Sweet dried cherry, mint, wild flowers and sweet tobacco give the 2017 lovely aromatic presence. Gentle and caressing in feel, Clos Margalaine is a pretty Margaux to drink now and over the next few years. The silky, floral 2017 has lovely aromatic presence. Gentle and caressing in feel, Clos Margalaine is a pretty Margaux to drink now and over the next few years. Tasted two times.

Medium garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Clos Margalaine displays pretty kirsch, black raspberries and violets scents with wafts of red and black currants and a touch of bay leaves. Medium-bodied, the palate gives a good amount of bright, juicy red and black berry flavors with a chewy texture and lively finish.

The 2017 Clos Margalaine is matured in 25% new oak for 14 months. It has a clean and pure bouquet with blackberry, raspberry and cassis notes, a touch of black truffle and violet aromas developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, quite grippy but maybe just lacking a little flow towards the seaweed-tinged finish. Fine.

A classic, elegant Margaux, the 2017 Clos Margalaine reveals a medium ruby hue as well as classy notes of red currants, dried spice, flowery incense, and sandalwood. Beautifully balanced, charming, and just pure Margaux on the palate, with no hard edges, it's already drinking beautifully yet should evolve nicely for 15+ years or more.
