Score 89/100 · Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Apr 2008

The Alsatian-like 2006 Gewurztraminer, one could say is a little “obvious” on the nose with pungent lychee aromas, the palate very ripe and peachy, almost desperate to please. But the palate is very well-balanced, tense with a natural, harmonious finish of apricot, white peach and lemon zest. Dry River is one of the iconic New Zealand producers, its modern era commencing in 1979 when Neil and Dawn McCallum planted their first vines in the gravelly “Martinborough Terrace,” since augmented by Craighall and Lovatt vineyards. Though Dry River was sold in 2002, Neil continues as chief winemaker assisted by Katie Hammond and the focus is on late-picked, concentrated, long-term wines.
