The 2018 Magrez-Fombrauge Blanc, which was so upfront and exuberant out of barrel, is very closed on the nose now that the wine is in bottle, and only reluctantly offers praline, pineapple and light mango scents. The palate is well balanced with tropical notes of passion fruit and guava on the entry, but as I remarked previously, it really lacks complexity and tension on the finish.
Lots of pretty pineapple, honeyed lemon, subtle almond, and white flower notes all emerge from the 2018 Château Magrez Fombrauge Blanc. Medium-bodied, it has a pure, balanced texture, moderate acidity, and a solid sense of minerality on the finish. This is a solid, impeccably made white that's going to shine for 4-5 years.
I liked the 2018 Magrez-Fombrauge Blanc quite a bit more from barrel. Now that it has been bottled, the 2018 comes across as abrupt and compact, with little of the charm and seductiveness it showed en primeur. Lemon confit, white flowers and tropical accents linger.
