Tasting notes
The Charmes-Chambertin Très Vieilles Vignes 2000 from Roty is a great wine considering the vintage. It has superb transparency on the nose with red cherries, strawberry pastilles and bacon fat, those limestone scents permeating through. The palate is very fine with crisp, slightly obdurate tannin. There is perhaps just a hint of brettanomyces in this wine, but it does not oppress the fruit, and there is an endearing harmonious finish that gains complexity with aeration. Give this a couple of hours in the decanter.

A ripe and slightly roasted fruit nose trimmed in ample oak influence leads to naturally sweet, rich, warm and mildly alcoholic big-bodied flavors that offer excellent complexity and power on the sappy and impressively long finish.
