Score 96/100 · Drink 2010-2022, Pierre Rovani, Dec 2002

The 2001 Riesling Auslese Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr** has awesome aromatic depth, displaying sweet, honeyed liquid minerals and hints of pineapple. On the palate, this stupendous Auslese has extraordinary breadth, clarity, and length. A massive yet balanced and harmonious wine, it admirably sports immense weight with the grace of a ballerina. Its layered character is crammed with well-delineated yet immensely ripe pears and apples. Slate, minerals, and traces of botrytised honey can be found in its superb finish. Drink this lush, pure wine between 2010 and 2022+. Importer: David Shiverick, Langdon-Shiverick, Cleveland, OH; tel. (216) 861-6800.

Great balance. A tightrope-walker of a wine, given its immense concentration of ripeness and crystalline acidity. (JR)
