Score 87-89/100 · Drink 2014-2024, Robert Parker, Aug 2014

The 2013 Faugeres is dominated by Merlot at 85% and the rest Cabernet Franc, with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon. A well-made, attractive, open-knit wine with soft tannin and decent acidity, it has a vibrant black cherry and blackcurrant-scented nose with licorice and lead pencil shavings. The wine is medium-bodied with sweet tannins and should drink nicely for 7-10 years. This large property of more than 90 acres planted in clay and limestone soils on the St.-Emilion/Castillon Plateau was cropped at 18 hectoliters per hectare from a harvest that ran October 1-12.

Freshly cut flowers, sweet red berries, spices and mint lift from the glass in the 2013 Faugères. Lifted and floral, the 2013 is quite attractive, although it lacks some mid-palate presence and depth. Plums, cassis, grilled herbs and mint notes linger on the soft, textured finish. This is a solid showing. Tasted twice.
