Score 91/100 · Drink 2021-2038, Neal Martin, Jun 2022

The 2011 Clos l’Eglise has a fresh bouquet, light but focused, red berry fruit laced with leather, mint and fleeting glimpses of orange rind. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins, quite harmonious with fine weight, and slightly savory red fruit. It lacks a bit of persistency on the finish, but otherwise this represents a very commendable take on a more challenging vintage. Tasted at the Clos l’Eglise vertical.

The 2011 Clos l'Eglise has an attractive bouquet with leather, mulberry and undergrowth scents, gentle yet showing more fruité than its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, cohesive and with impressive weight on the finish, a dash of white pepper and clove lingering on the aftertaste, this is a commendable 2011 that is maturing with grace. Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting.

Tasted blind. Blackish crimson. Light and quite pretty on the nose. Pretty austere in terms of acidity and lack of fruit. Lots of fine tannin still in evidence. (JR)

Showing beautifully, the 2011 Clos L'Eglise shows a kiss of maturity in its cassis and jammy currant fruits. It has complex notes of crushed rocks, graphite, dried tobacco, and chocolate, medium to full body, ripe tannins, and terrific balance. The 2011 vintage has been maligned in the press, but the wines are showing nicely today. This is at the early stages of maturity and will evolve gracefully for another 10-15 years.
