Score 92/100 · Drink 2022-2030, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2018

Dark red with ruby tones. Very ripe, almost liqueur-like aromas of black fruits, licorice and minerals, with hints of exotic fruits. Plush, velvety and thick but with good energy to its black fruit, licorice and mocha flavors. The tannins are silky-smooth and fully ripe. This wine's sucrosité will give it early appeal but it has the stuffing for mid-term aging.

(these vines average 50 years of age; the Humberts own a major chunk of this premier cru and the Poissenot is their largest cuvée after their village Gevrey): Dark red-ruby. Very dark, floral nose exudes scents of cassis, blackberry, violet and licorice. Juicy and imploded, displaying terrific definition but an extremely primary character to its dark fruit, licorice and mineral flavors. This very rocky wine from shallow soil is quite youthfully taut today, with its strong oak element currently drying the tannins. But there's outstanding mineral energy here to support a long and graceful evolution in bottle. This wine can be a bit strict in cooler years like 2010 and 2008, notes Humbert.
