Tasting notes
The 2017 Barolo Vignarionda is soft, fleshy and easygoing. All the elements are very nicely balanced. The Pira Vignarionda is a wine of proportion and harmony. Nothing sticks out. There is plenty of Rionda sensuality to play off the wine's understated, mid-weight personality.

Serralunga d'Alba. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Savoury, minerally nose with hints of crushed pepper. Elegant, almost light palate weight with spicy-sweet fruit and a layer of gorgeous, finely-crushed tannins. Ready now. (WS)
The 2017 Barolo Vignarionda is aromatic of cherry liqueur, pine, and balsamic. Generous with fruit and forward with its firm tannic grip, there is ripe red plum, tobacco, and porcini carved into the palate. A wine with great potential, hold 3-6 years and drink 2026-2046.
This is the proverbial red-meat Barolo with the structure and stature of both its territory and this emboldened, hot vintage. The Luigi Pira 2017 Barolo Vignarionda shows depth and width with a very rich quality of fruit. That primary intensity adds to the softness of the wine and its considerable textural fiber and layering. This full-bodied Barolo with fruit from Serralunga d'Alba will be remembered for its structure and ample staying power.
