In the glass, the 2018 Tournefeuille develops some aromas of red berries, blackberries, spices, licorice and violet. Medium to full-bodied and, concentrated on the palate, with structuring tannins, the wine is balanced with dark cherry aromas on the finish along with some oaky notes that should diminish with a certain amount of time in the cellar.

An estate to seek out in Lalande-de-Pomerol, just over the border from Pomerol on some of the highest quality soils of the appellation. One of the highest proportions of Cabernet Franc in the estate's recent history, adding a fragrant lightness to the rich and fully ripe blackberry, damson and cassis puree fruits. Cocoa bean and cappuccino sweetness on the finish. One third new oak (with 20% of production aged in vats). Owned by Emeric Petit since 1998.

The 2018 Tournefeuille has an opulent nose of bold cassis, black cherry and camphor aromas. It does not quite have the delineation of its peers, although hedonists will appreciate it. The palate is rather sour on the entry, with taut red fruit, and pinched on the finish. Maybe another couple of years in bottle will yield results, but it seems a lopsided Lalande de Pomerol.
