The 2014 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, Roulot's first release from his négociant arm, was served in magnum. It acquits itself extremely well. Taut and tensile on the nose and quite steely at first, it gradually manifests scents of white truffles and even a hint of white chocolate. The oak is beautifully integrated. The palate is well balanced with a linear entry, very elegant, understated even as it gradually builds towards a satisfyingly harmonious finish. Really classy winemaking here—superb. Tasted at the R.O's 1947 dinner in Hong Kong.

The 2014 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, sourced from the Ladoix side, has a stony, stoic nose that is very precise and offers traces of the sea. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity, quite tight and perhaps needing to borrow some of the Folatières oiliness on the finish. As I opined to Jean-Marc, I feel that it needs more substance, especially on the attenuated finish. Four barrels produced.
