Very dark crimson. Leather and liquorice on the nose. Interesting top notes. Well balanced with the merest hint of greenness on the finish (Carmenère? Petit Verdot?) The most obviously Chilean so far. Very gentle. Already quite evolved. Beautifully made. Drier than some. (JR)

The deep purple-colored 2008 Syrah La Cumbre contains 3% Petit Verdot in its blend and spent 18 months in barrel. Exotic spices, incense, a hint of balsamic, lavender, and blueberry aromas lead to a rich, plush, full-flavored Syrah that can be approached now and which will last through 2020. (includes 3% petit verdot) Bright ruby. Complex, spicy bouquet displays dark fruit compote, violet, candied licorice and allspice, complicated by a vanilla overtone. Pure, energetic blackberry and cherry-cola flavors stain the palate, picking up notes of floral pastille and spices with air. Powerful but very graceful, finishing with strong thrust and lingering smokiness.
