Tasting notes
The 2019 Don Maximiano Founder's Reserve was produced with a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Malbec, 10% Carmenere and 3% Petit Verdot, a wine that used to be 100% Cabernet but evolved to be a Cabernet-based blend, now with a moderate 13.5% alcohol and with good freshness, austerity and spiciness with textbook Cabernet tannins, nicely structured and built. This has a lot more tension and is a lot drier than the wines from a decade ago. It matured in French oak barrels, 75% of them new, for 22 months. 13,900 bottles were filled in January 2021.

The 2019 Blend Don Maximiano Founder's Reserve is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Malbec, 10% Carménère and 3% Petit Verdot from Aconcagua and spent 22 months in 75% new barrels. Purple in color. The nose offers young red fruit with hints of fresh blackberry and plum and a layer of spices and black tea over a bed of cedar. In the mouth, the juice provides an anchor for vibrant, fine-grained tannins that enhance the intense flavor. A wine that favors subtlety over potency.
Currant, blackberry and ash aromas with some earth and dried flowers, following through to a full body with layers of beautifully ripe tannins that are firm and fresh. Long, fresh finish of currants and blackberries. Drink after 2024.
