The 2021 Clos Saint-Martin is based on 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and the balance Cabernet Sauvignon, from a tiny 1.3-hectare parcel of clay and limestone soils. Its healthy ruby hue is followed by a beautiful nose of red and blue fruits intermixed with lots of crushed stone, damp earth, leather, and violet nuances. It's medium-bodied, has good mid-palate depth, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's a clear success in the vintage that already offers ample pleasure yet deserves 3-4 years of bottle age. It will have 15-20 years of overall longevity. This is well worth seeking out.

The 2021 Clos Saint-Martin has a cohesive bouquet with slightly earthy red fruit, sage and clove, opening gradually in the glass. A second bottle has a slight metallic note. The palate is medium-bodied with a mint-tinged opening, well-balanced if missing the usual flair of this Saint-Émilion due to the growing season. There is a pleasant pepperiness on the finish that maintains interest, though I did find one bottle with a rather tinny aftertaste. I have to be prudent with my score here.

The 2021 Clos Saint-Martin is an elegant, polished wine. Crushed rose petal, spice, blood orange, cedar, mint and kirsch all open in an understated, classy Saint-Émilion that captures the more gracious side of the year in style. (Drink between 2029-2041) (AG)

The 2021 Clos St. Martin offers up aromas of cherries, blueberry liqueur, petroleum jelly and toasty new oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich and creamy palate that's framed by plenty of youthfully chewy tannin that asserts itself on the finish. As I wrote en primeur, this is an unabashedly modern-styled wine that will appeal to readers looking for sweet, fruit-forward wines in a vintage that only seldom delivered that.
