The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Macherelles 1er Cru has a simple bouquet that is missing a little mineralité and just comes across somewhat generic (blowsy?) at the moment. The palate is very ripe with peach skin and pear, soft in the middle and a little candied toward the finish. This Chassagne needs more tension on the finish and therefore I feel it is more of a short-term proposition. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Macherelles exhibits a pretty bouquet of pear, white flowers and almond paste, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and satiny palate, its ample core of succulent fruit underpinned by lively acids. This is a charming, beautifully balanced Chassagne that will drink well young.
The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Macherelles 1er Cru has a tightly-wound, quite malic bouquet that demands some coaxing from the glass. The palate is fresh on the entry with orange zest and light citrus notes, merging into more red fruit (red cherry even) towards a quite generous finish that indicates that this will be relatively early drinking compared to Bachelet’s other Premier Crus. Fine.
