Tasting notes
A production of 2,249 numbered (and heavy) bottles, the Quintodecimo 2019 Taurasi Riserva Grand Cru Luigi Moio is the top-shelf red release from this celebrated winemaker and professor. Detail-minded to the extreme, Luigi Moio's namesake wine is an expression of richness, concentration and dark fruit. The 2019 vintage created especially textured wines across the board. Blackcurrant and baked plum cede to good freshness, oak spice and balanced richness. The oak is much better integrated here compared to the sweeter and riper 2020 Taurasi Vigna Quintodecimo.

The 2019 Taurasi Riserva Grand Cru Luigi Moio is a spice box on the nose, tempting the imagination with depths of crushed wild blueberries, black cherries, cloves, lavender and hints of leather. This is a model of purity, silky and serene, with polished waves of ripe red and black fruits carried across a stream of lively acidity. A saturation of exotic spice forms toward the close. The 2019 finishes long and structured, with a tinge of blood orange that lends freshness as violet inner florals slowly fade. This is the first vintage of Grand Cru Luigi Moio, sourced from a parcel originally used for Terra d'Eclano that was planted in 2015. It undergoes that same élevage as the other Taurasis of the house, spending 24 months in new French barriques.
