The 2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is yet another wine from the appellation that has quite a bit of reduction on the nose, but again, I like the fruit profile with more red than black, more sense of Pinot Noir. Returning after 15 minutes, the aromatics blossom and gain more intensity and florality. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-bodied tannins, fresh and perhaps one of the most elegant Clos de Vougeot. Very harmonious and poised, this is a wonderful, pure wine that will give a lot of pleasure. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Made with purchased grapes, first vintage was in 2015. 50-year-old vines, production between 900 and 1,800 bottles.  Cask sample. A little tired on the nose (sample problem?), powerful and weighty on the palate. Dense, dark, cerise and leafy blackberry notes. Mineral edge to the palate, almost with a chalky drying-out character. Not quite firing on all cylinders – yet. (AWH)

The 2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru offers a mixture of red and black fruit on the nose, hints of candied orange peel, just a touch of glycerin here. The palate is quite powerful with layers of black cherry and cassis fruit. Fine tannin, quite dense and structured on the finish, a nice touch of salinity on the aftertaste. Excellent, but it will need time in bottle.
