Tasting notes
Very minty and complex, full of licorice root and dried cherries. Firm, chalky tannins dominate on the palate, with a full body and lifted acidity. A bit ripe on the warming finish.

A saturated red color, the 2018 Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva Vignaferrovia is enveloping with melding notes of polished leather, cherry liqueur, porcini, and sweet baking spices. Full-bodied and elegant, it’s supple and velvety, with plush tannins, a ripe, rounded texture, and a balanced finish. It is a seductive and open wine with some evolution that is drinking well now and will drink well over the coming 5-6 years. Pian delle Vigne is an estate Antinori acquired in 1995 and is overseen by winemaker Dora Pacciani.
The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Ferrovia blossoms in the glass with a bouquet of dusty dried flowers and black cherries complemented by violet pastille. This displays silky textures, a pleasant inner sweetness and a dense wave of ripe wild berry fruits contrasted by orange and dark chocolate. It leaves a coating of fine-grained tannins and mint to linger on while finishing long, structured and built for the cellar. This elegant Vigna Ferrovia is a seductress. (EG)
