The 2019 Barolo Cerretta is terrific. Layered and expansive, yet also medium in body, the Cerretta is a fine effort from this Serralunga vineyard, where wines tend to be a bit more accessible than they are in other parts of the village. Succulent red cherry fruit, blood orange, mint, sweet spice and wild flowers abound. This is very nicely done.

The Prunotto 2019 Barolo Cerretta (with fruit from Serralunga d'Alba) shows immediate hints of metallic minerality with iodine and rusty nail. These aromas are often present in wines from this village, and they add contours and linearity to wines that tend to be quite powerful on their own. Dark fruit and crème de cassis cede to a tightly textured mouthfeel. Some 10,000 bottles are coming to market this fall.

Serralunga d’Alba. Just mid ruby. Concentrated and deep on the nose but not showing it all yet. Bags of crunchy tannins and sour cherry with real depth. Generous, long and with sweet, firm tannins.
