(there's just a single new barrel of this juice): Bright, deep red. Compelling subtle perfume of raspberry, mocha, underbrush and exotic spices, plus a whiff of noble vegetility. Sappy, savory and perfumed, with an initially subtle sweetness that builds as the wine opens in the glass. I find little obvious sign of oak here. In fact, there's nothing hard about this grand cru, although I would not be at all surprised if it went into a shell bottling. Finishes with suave tannins and lingering red fruit and stony mineral flavors. Really leaves the palate vibrating.

The 2013 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru has quite a rich nose for a 2013 (at least at this early juncture) with sous bois-tinged red and black fruit, touches of leather and game emerging with continued aeration. The palate is well balanced with toasty red fruit slightly obscuring what feels like fine tannins. This is backward and broody compared to its peers, although with several years it should melt together. Modern in style, it is undeniably well crafted.

Based in Meursault and farming some of the finest vineyards in the Côte de Beaune, Henri Boillot is a leading address in Burgundy. He crafts fine Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, but the estate is best known for its flagship monopole vineyard, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Clos de la Mouchère.
