Expressive, layered and nuanced to the core, the 2011 Barbaresco Rombone captures the essence of the vintage. Orange peel, exotic spices, herbs, lavender and mint add shades of complexity, but more than anything, the Rombone is a broad, large-scaled wine with considerable tannic heft and intensity.
A soft, pretty wine for this vintage with chocolate, nut and plum aromas and flavors. Full body with soft, silky tannins and a long finish. Delicious now.
The 2011 Barbaresco Rombone is quite a bit richer, darker and more intensely spiced than the Manzola, with notable density and richness. While the Manzola is quite open, the Rombone is likely to require a few years in bottle for the tannins to start melting away. The Rombone spent a year in barrique followed by a year in cask.
