A blend of 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon brought up 70% in new barrels and 30% in stainless steel vats, the 2023 3 By Valandraud offers bright, juicy cherries, redcurrants, sappy flowers, and loamy earth notes as well as classic Saint-Emilion minerality. Medium-bodied, balanced, and mid-weight, it's incredibly charming and complex. I like it today, yet it's going to have a solid 10-15 years of longevity. There are roughly 4,233 cases produced. Drink 2026-2040.

The 2023 3 de Valandraud has a well-defined bouquet, with mainly red berry fruit laced with black tea and bay leaf scents. The palate is medium-bodied, with supple tannins. Quite smooth, well-knit oak, with a touch of white pepper on the finish. Enjoy this over the next four to five years.

The 2023 Château Valandraud 3 De Valandraud will be a little gem and is well worth seeking out. Red and black fruits, spicey herbs, tobacco, and some chocolate notes all define the aromatics, and it's medium-bodied, round, supple, and delicious.

The 3 by Valandraud is a racy, expressive offering from Jean-Luc Thunevin and Muriel Andraud taken from un-classed parcels adjacent to Valandraud. Succulent dark cherry, plum, leather, spice, dried herbs and tobacco all race across the palate in this inviting, alluring, Merlot-based blend.

Valandraud

One of the first garage wines, Ch. Valandraud was created by Jean-Luc Thunevin – Saint-Emilion’s “bad boy”. Today the style of the wine is much more restrained, and officially classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé B estate.
