Score 89/100 · Drink 2022-2040, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Feb 2020

The 2017 Marsannay Champs Saint Etienne opens in the glass with notes of ripe cherries and dark berries, mingled with hints of woodsmoke and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's built around youthful tannins and succulent acids. From a site that's due to be elevated to premier cru, this is one of the more immediate, fruit-driven of Roty's Marsannay cuvées.

The 2017 Marsannay Champs Saint-Etienne has an earthy bouquet that develops touches of potpourri and incense with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and fine acidity, and a little chewy in the mouth, with black cherries and blueberry toward the lightly spiced finish. Excellent.

The 2017 Marsannay Champs Saint-Etienne has an intense bouquet: black cherries, Indian ink, touches of mint developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannin, grippy in the mouth but with impressive depth and freshness through to the marine/black olive infused finish. I like the energy here - one to watch.
