Bright yellow. Musky pineapple and lemon aromas offer a bit less lift today than the Cailleret but plenty of allure. Less sweet and pristine in the middle palate than the Cailleret, but a bit thicker in texture, with the stony underpinning and spine of lemony acidity to give it a seriously penetrating quality. A sexy element of reduction adds to this young wine's considerable appeal. Conveys a strong, tactile impression of dry extract without any rough edges and finishes salty and long. A year ago, the Cailleret seemed creamier and more harmonious than this wine but this has put on weight without any loss of tension.

The 2016 Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières was matured in 20% new oak. It has a tightly wound bouquet with scents of dried pineapple and citrus fruit although it does not express the stoniness, the mineralité of this vineyard’s finest exponents. Nevertheless, the palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, fresh and saline with admirable depth if not nervosité on the finish. This would be my pick from the Maison de Montille range this vintage.

20% new oak. Stirred every two weeks. Malo ended by February. Racked in August. To be bottled by April 2018. Pale. Edgy, really nervy. Pungent. Dry end. Very dense. (JR)
