Deep purple-hued, the 2023 Château Soutard reveals terrific aromatics of ripe black cherries, spring flowers, graphite, and some smoky tobacco nuances. Based on 57% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 50% new French oak with the balance in once-used barrels and foudre, it's medium-bodied and has a pure, layered, graceful mouthfeel with outstanding length. I love its mid-palate as well as its overall sense of balance. The quality continues to rise here, and this beauty will drink well over the coming two decades. Drink 2026-2045.

The 2023 Soutard turned out well. Rose petal, lavender, blood orange and dark raspberry open first. Elegant and lifted, with gorgeous precision, Soutard is just as expressive as it was last year. Vibrant mineral notes extend the long, brilliant finish. This is such a pretty, elegant wine.

The 2023 Soutard has quite a “punchy” bouquet with upfront black cherry and boysenberry fruit. Moderate definition. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins, nicely structured with a pleasant peppery aspect. Gentle in terms of grip with a precise finish, this is a fine Soutard that should age well in bottle. Could represent great value.

Fresh and rich nose of ripe plums and cherries with touches of dark spices and graphite. Juicy and plummy, with fleshy fruit and round, fine tannins that are evenly packed on the center palate. Long finish. 57% merlot, 29% cabernet franc, 7% cabernet sauvignon and 7% malbec. Drinkable now, but better in two more years.
