FINE+RARE, Apr 2024

This subtle Latour à Pomerol takes a little while to open up in the glass, eventually offering up aromas of pencil-lead, lilac and violets. Layers of cassis fruit dominate the palate, leading to a long and powerful finish framed by silky smooth tannins that disperse slowly. This 2023 has managed to retain all of the finer elements of the vintage with an added level of power. Blend: 100% Merlot

All Merlot from deeper gravelly and clay soils and aged in 50% new French oak, the 2023 Château Latour A Pomerol sports a deep ruby/plum hue as well as ripe black fruits, graphite, smoky tobacco, and chocolate. It's rich, medium to full-bodied, compact, and firm, with an inward style that's going to need 4-5 years of bottle age. It should be long-lived. Drink 2029-2053.

The 2023 Latour à Pomerol is a classy, elegant wine. Lifted aromatics, delineated fruit and silky tannins give Latour à Pomerol a feeling of total sophistication. Readers will find a Pomerol that is impeccable in its balance. Macerated cherry, spice, new leather and blood orange lead into the subtle yet sneakily persistent finish.

The 2023 Latour à Pomerol has a clean and pure bouquet with raspberry and blackberry fruit, mixed with incense and lightly pressed iris flower aromas. Quite understated in style. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a lovely core of red fruit laced with white pepper and thyme, cohesive and harmonious, building toward the nicely structured finish. This is slightly above my expectations from barrel and this is reflected in my score. Excellent.
