Tasting notes
Based on 100% Merlot from 8.5 hectares of vines on gravelly, clay, and silt soils, the 2023 Château Lafleur-Gazin is a ripe, expressive Pomerol with loads of spicy red and black fruits, smoky tobacco, chocolate, and nicely integrated oak. It's medium to full-bodied, has a layered, nicely concentrated mouthfeel, supple tannins, and just a charming, balanced, pleasure-bent style that's already impossible to resist. Drink this complex, beautifully layered Pomerol over the coming 20 years or more. Drink 2026-2045.

The 2023 Lafleur-Gazin is a very pretty, aromatic Pomerol. Crushed flowers, autumn leaves, sweet dried cherry and tobacco are all very nicely lifted. Floral and minty overtones carry the mid-palate and finish. This gracious, mid-weight Pomerol is all charm.
The 2023 Lafleur-Gazin has an airy and open bouquet with strawberry and Morello cherry scents, but it is actually too "airy" for me. Hey, this ain't Pinot Noir! The palate restores order with a bit of backbone you want from your Pomerol, dark berry fruit laced with white pepper and sage, although it needs a little more depth and grip on the finish that pulls up a bit short.
Aromas of milk chocolate, blackberries and plums with hints of thyme and vanilla. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, showing a fleshy core of elegant dark fruit framed by round, velvety tannins. Lustrous and linear, with a soft, polished texture. 100% merlot, aged for 12 months in 50% new oak. Drink or hold.
