Score 90/100 · Drink 2030-2045, Jeb Dunnuck, Mar 2026

Smoky black fruits, leafy herbs, tobacco, and leather with some subtle floral notes all emerge from the 2023 Château La Louvière. Medium-bodied on the palate, it has a focused, nicely balanced, and rich mouthfeel, though it's slightly foursquare at the moment and will benefit from a few years of bottle age. Give bottles 3-5 years and drink this solid Pessac-Léognan over the following 15 years. Drink 2030-2045.

The 2023 La Louvière is packed with dark-fleshed fruit, new leather, lavender and scorched earth. Powerful and explosive in the glass, the 2023 turned out beautifully. The blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon works quite well.

The 2023 La Louvière has ample fruit on the nose: blackberry and boysenberry, touches of juniper berry in the background, fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with a grippy blackberry/graphite entry and here, I just find the wood a bit obtrusive on the finish. Maybe just give it a couple of years in bottle.

Cassis, smoky oak, graphite, and ample spicy nuances all emerge from the 2023 Château La Louvière, a medium-bodied, focused, elegant, nicely concentrated Pessac-Léognan that has good mid-palate depth, plenty of tannins, and a great finish. Tasted twice.
