A Cabernet-dominant blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Cabernet Franc, 12% Merlot, and 8% Petit Verdot aged six months in barrels, the 2023 Château Haut-Bergey offers juicy black cherries, graphite, and smoky tobacco on the nose, with some chocolaty, spicy background nuances. It's medium-bodied, round, supple, and mouthfilling on the palate, with a delicious, satisfying style. Drink this solid effort over the coming 10-12 years. Drink 2026-2038.

The 2023 Haut-Bergey has a light, earthy, almost peaty nose with an odd celery note permeating the black fruit. The palate is vegetal, raw and simply well short of ripeness. Bitter, almost acrid, on the finish. I actually went back to re-taste this wine just in case I was being mean ... but no. Biodynamics is moot if the fruit is unripe.

Coming from vines located between Malartic and Chevalier, the 2023 Château Haut-Bergey has beautiful red fruits, dried herbs, spicy, and loamy earth notes in its medium-bodied, nicely textured, balanced profile. It has some firmer tannins on the finish, but I suspect those will resolve nicely over the course of its élevage. Tasted twice with consistent notes.

Since Paul Garcin took over running this estate in 2014, it has become one of Pessac-Léognan’s most exciting addresses. Biodynamic and with a minimalist approach, Ch. Haut-Bergey makes pure and expressive wines that offer both great value and a taste of the modern Bordeaux.
