Score 92/100 · Drink 2029-2044, Jeb Dunnuck, Mar 2026

Ripe red and black fruits, chocolate, leafy herbs, spicy wood, and iron nuances all emerge from the 2023 Château Grand Corbin, a sexy, pleasure-bent Saint-Émilion Grand Cru from the upper plateau close to Pomerol. Based on 83% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon from clay soils and aged 12 months in 40% new French oak, it's medium to full-bodied and textured on the palate, with a broad, layered, fleshy style, beautifully integrated tannins, and a great finish. This impeccably made effort needs 3-5 years to gain complexity and will shine over the following 15+ years. Drink 2029-2044.

The 2023 Grand Corbin has an attractive bouquet with blackberry, briar and pencil box scents, another that is quite Left Bank in style, yet fresh. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins, a patina of oak to be subsumed, though there is decent depth with a cohesive, slightly soft finish. Fine early-drinking fare.

The blackberry, flint, graphite and pine needle aromas come through clearly. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and balanced fruit and structure. A blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. Very drinkable now, but better in a year or two.

Lot of red plums, darker raspberries, sappy herbs, and chocolate oak define the 2023 Château Grand Corbin, which is medium-bodied and concentrated on the palate, with a firmer, focused, slightly foursquare style. I do like its mid-palate and overall balance, but it's going to need bottle age. The blend is 84% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon.
