Tasting notes
FINE+RARE, Apr 2024

The nose of this 2023 is full of wonderfully rich and floral aromas that soar out of the glass. The estate has managed to retain both power and finesse on a mid-palate that offers up notes of lemon peel, apricot and candied fruit. A backbone of acidity brings flawless freshness and a long and moreish finish. It has 175g/l sugar and 12.5% alcohol.

All Semillon brought up in one-third new French oak, the 2023 Château Doisy Daëne has a stunning perfume of pure orange marmalade, honeyed white flowers, mint, and caramelized tangerines. It's rich, medium to full-bodied, has a layered, flawlessly balanced mouthfeel, and a great finish. It's a riveting Sauternes from this estate that has so much to love, and I'd put it up with the crème de la crème of the vintage. It will keep for 30 years or more. Drink 2026-2056.

The 2023 Doisy-Daëne is redolent of pineapple, tangerine oil and passion fruit. Doisy-Daëne is usually a bit more floral, but the 2023 seems to be built on striking textural richness. As good as the 2023 is, it will be much more complete with a few years in bottle.

Aromas of white fruits and baked Anjou pear, intertwined with exotic nuances of mango and pineapple, introduce the 2023 Doisy Daëne. Medium- to full-bodied, pure and precise, it offers a seamless texture and a fleshy core of fruit marked by a delicate note of rôti, enhanced by refined gastronomic bitterness and extending into a perfumed, ethereal and seemingly endless finish. This blend of 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc ranks among the finest wines produced under the stewardship of Denis Dubourdieu’s sons.
