Tasting notes
The 2023 Carlmagnus is an attractive, mid-weight Fronsac. Crushed flowers, mint, sage, tobacco, mint, orange peel and bright red-toned fruit are nicely delineated. I find the 2023 just a touch vegetal, something that needs to be addressed here.

The 2023 Carlmagnus offers dusky black fruit on the nose, dark chocolate and espresso scents from the oak that is a little vocal. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, fine acidity, segueing into more red fruit toward the finish. Early drinking, but afford it a few months to assimilate the wood.
Aromas of violets with dark berries and warm stone undertones. The savory, medium- to full-bodied palate shows a subtle saline thread and lively precision. Approachable yet finely detailed. A blend of 90% merlot, 5% cabernet franc and 5% cabernet sauvignon. Drink or hold.
The 2023 Château Carlmagnus is mostly Merlot, offering textbook notes of juicy cherry and strawberry fruit as well as medium-bodied richness and depth on the palate. This charming, forward, easygoing 2023 is going to be best drunk in its youth.
