The 2023 Clos Floridène offers dark berry fruit mixed with light tobacco and graphite scents on the nose. Perhaps more Médoc than Pessac in style. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, grippy, with a slightly oaky finish. Not bad, but the white is definitely superior this year.
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 Clos Floridene Rouge pops from the glass with notes of juicy blackberries and wild strawberries followed by hints of wild sage, damp soil, and sassafras. The medium-bodied palate is soft and subtle, with uncomplicated pepper and sage notes on the finish. The blend is 75.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24.5% Merlot.
The 2023 Clos Floridène has an open, redcurrant, wild strawberry and sous-bois bouquet that needs a little more vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. Cohesive with a touch of white pepper and clove toward the finish, this is balanced yet needs a little more brightness and tension.
