Ripe black cherries, darker currants, cedar pencil, and graphite, with some spicy, floral nuances developing with time in the glass, all emerge from the 2023 Château Branas Grand Poujeaux. Based on 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 15% Petit Verdot and aged 16 months in 92% French oak barrels with 8% in amphora, it sports a deep ruby hue and has a medium-bodied, concentrated, layered mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's easily the finest vintage of this cuvée I've tasted, and while I love it today, it will cruise for two decades in cold cellars. There are 5,000 cases produced. Bravo! Drink 2026-2045.

The 2023 Branas Grand Poujeaux is a rich, exuberant Moulis-en-Médoc. Inky dark fruit, crème de cassis, chocolate, new leather, licorice, mocha and lavender are front and center. Bold, plush and sumptuous to the core, Branas Grand Poujeaux is a total delight.

The 2023 Branas Grand Poujeaux contains the highest proportion of Petit Verdot due to mildew losses for the Merlot, matured in 50% new French oak plus 8% in amphora. It offers dark berry fruit, wild hedgerow and light eucalyptus scents that unfurl in the glass. Fine delineation. The palate has a grainy entry, fine acidity, quite peppery in style, with a subtle earthiness that manifests on the finish. Obviously, it is not as flamboyant as the previous vintage but I appreciate its classicism and it should age well.

Blackberries, cassis, and spicy wood define the 2023 Château Branas Grand Poujeaux, a medium-bodied, round, supple, impressively textured Moulis that has soft tannins and terrific overall balance. This château continues to make a classic, textured, incredibly impressive wine in just about every vintage.
