The 2023 Blason d’Issan has a straightforward, quite high-toned/pastille-like bouquet that just needs a little more bandwidth. The palate is medium-bodied with strict tannins, but it feels a bit hollow on the mid-palate and a bit raw on the finish. I have had better Blason d’Issan.

The spiced oak character with high clove spice is more evident than it was En Primeur. Juicy on the palate, a ton of rose bud, floral character, clear impact from just 3% Malbec, a little shut down on the finish. 30% oak for ageing. Great value. Eric Boissenot consultant.

Flowers, spice, and ripe, red berries create the main focus of the wine here. Medium-bodied, soft, juicy, and fresh, with soft, silky tannins, and sweetness, with a cherry-filled finish. Give this a year to soften, and it will be perfect for near-term drinking while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop. Drink from 2026-2037.

The 2023 Blason d'Issan marks the 30th anniversary of this label. Deep garnet-purple in color, it needs a swirl or two to unleash powerful scents of prunes and stewed raspberries leading to hints of chargrill, dried herbs, and pencil lead. The medium-bodied palate is lightly chewy, with plenty of dried berries flavors and a refreshing backbone, finishing a touch rustic. The blend is 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 48% Merlot, and 3% Malbec, with pH 3.50.
