Tasting notes
The 2021 Château Fonbadet is rock-solid, with a pure, classic, medium-bodied profile as well as classic Pauillac notes of cassis, lead pencil shavings, iron, and a kiss of ripe tobacco. It's medium-bodied, concentrated, and focused, with the more foursquare style of the vintage, yet it brings a terrific core of sweet fruit and has ripe, polished tannins. Based on 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot, raised in 55% new barrels, drink bottles over the coming 10-15 years.

The 2021 Fonbadet has a very elegant and refined bouquet with black cherries, wild strawberry and crushed stone, becoming more floral in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and a fine bead of acidity that binds together a harmonious, lightly spiced, quite persistent finish. This is a fine Pauillac in the context of the growing season.
The 2021 Fonbadet is a tasty, well-made Pauillac. Crushed flowers, spice and new leather lend lovely aromatic presence. Silky tannins add to the wine's refined, understated feel. All this is missing is depth, but its balance is very fine for the year.
A well handled 2021, savoury black fruit that goes long on Cabernet Sauvignon character, slim through the mid palate. Rose stems, fennel, raspberry leaf and blackcurrant. 37hl/h yield, 55% new oak, 11.5ha, Michel Rolland and Julien Viaud. The vines at Fonbadet have an average age of 50 years. Harvest September 28 to October 16.
