The 2019 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru has a slab of toasty new oak on the nose that obliterates the terroir expression at the moment. I can't peer in and see where it comes from. Medium-bodied and chewy, with sappy red fruit, this feels like a Clos Vougeot worked in the winery more than the vineyard. It’s very seductive, but the jury's out as to whether there is sufficient fruit behind it. This could go either way, so I will be prudent with my score. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Rich and muscular, the 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru offers up aromas of ripe berry fruit, plums, orange rind, licorice, dark chocolate and a generous patina of minty new oak. Full-bodied, fleshy and layered, it's concentrated and textural, with succulent acids and an expansive finish.

The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has an open, expressive bouquet of red berry fruit plus touches of leather and black pepper; it does not quite possess the delineation of the domaine’s top-performing Vosne Premier Crus. The palate is medium-bodied with candied red fruit on the entry and a little more vanilla-y than expected, but there is a plushness and energy on the finish, and hints of dark chocolate on the aftertaste, which render this very sensual. Give this Clos Vougeot 4–5 years in bottle.
