Pale crimson. Sumptuous nose that offers everything one could possibly seek in a red burgundy – perhaps a bit too soon? Ferny flavours on the palate and no denying the acidity. But again, that fan of flavour on the finish. (JR)

The 2021 Volnay Village has a fragrant nose with delicate red cherry and wild strawberry fruit, well-defined and quintessentially Volnaysian. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannins, creamy in texture though it is missing a little depth and complexity, as you might expect given the growing season. Pleasant sweetness on the finish, but this is probably best suited for early consumption.
The 2021 Volnay Village wafts from the glass with aromas of sweet red berries, petals, orange zest and smoke. Medium to full-bodied, lively and fleshy, with melting tannins that frame a pretty core of delicate, perfumed fruit, it concludes with a saline finish.
About the producer
Marquis d'Angerville is synonymous with the village of Volnay, having long made some of the village’s finest wines. Best known for its Premier Cru monopole vineyard, Clos des Ducs, this estate crafts fine-boned, elegant styles of Pinot Noir – wines that act as standard-bearers for the appellation.
