The 2018 La Grave has an understated bouquet, though it has gained a little more focus since I last tasted it from barrel, offering black fruit tinged with gravel and still that faint fig-like tincture. The palate is medium-bodied with a savory entry, tobacco-infused black fruit and a pinch of black pepper. As usual, it does not possess enormous grip or persistency, but it is a well-crafted La Grave.

The 2018 La Grave is a bold, hearty Pomerol. Black cherry, plum, espresso, licorice, gravel, dried herbs and leather give La Grave its potent, somber feel. Imposing tannins add to an impression of rusticity. I would prefer to drink this over the next decade, give or take.
The medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2018 la Grave is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. It slips easily out of the glass with open-knit scents of baked plums, boysenberries and mulberries, plus touches of black truffles, menthol, pencil shavings and an iodine waft. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers mouth-coating black fruits with a rugged, rather rustic texture and just enough freshness, finishing on a medicinal note.
