The Ayler Riesling 2022 Kupp GG Fass 18 is perhaps the finest of Lauer's crus I tasted in Wiesbaden at the Vorpremiere VDP.Grosses Gewächs in August 2023. The wine starts with cool, fresh, aromatic and very fine Kupp slate spiciness on the nose. In the mouth, it is juicy and elegant, balanced and already singing. On the finish, this fine-bodied or filigreed Riesling is salty and finishes with stimulating spiciness. A classic.

AP number 18 23. Really reverberant and exciting on the palate. Racy and delicate. Convincing. Tastes off dry. Will presumably become more complex with time. (JR)
Very spicy and flinty nose with plenty of yeasty mystery. On the palate this is so pure and straight, the power and concentration underplayed. Very long, stony finish. As the yeasty character lifts this will show ever more white peach and yellow apple fruit. Drinkable now, but best from 2024.
