The 2021 Bannockburn Pinot Noir is balanced and pretty, with very fine tannins and a floral profile. The finish is quiet but long—deceptively so. It's a wine of poise and nuance. There is white pepper, suppleness and chewiness which I find extremely attractive. This has a long evolutionary path in front of it. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

Full screwcapped bottle, an admirably light 1,168 g, is plastered with the name Baron Edmond de Rothschild (of Ch Clarke) – this is now an Edmond de Rothschild Heritage property. Mid, bright garnet. Earthy, sweet fruit on the nose. Soft, sweet and pretty inconsequential on the palate. Sweet, not entirely refreshing, finish. (JR)
