Tasting notes
This whistle-clean wine is still dominated by acidity – making it a Corton-Charlemagne that did very nicely as an aperitif! This is very far from the fat, almondy style of many wines of this appellation. Only medium body. Bright fruited and very fresh. More energy than most. Then it opened out and took on fat in the glass, encouraging me that it will make old bones. (JR)

(bottled in April) Bright, pale, green-tinged yellow. Captivating if somewhat austere aromas and flavors of wet stream pebbles, lime, violet and lavender. Then fat and sweet in the mouth, with terrific energy and lift to the middle palate. In a thicker, rather masculine style; in comparison, the Caillerets is more racy and filigree.
Perfumed, refined nose offers lemon, crushed stone, ginger and lavender. Superconcentrated, dense and tactile wine, with almost painful energy to its lemon and stone flavors thanks to strong mineral-driven acidity. The invigorating, rising finish displays superb length. Offers uncanny texture and flavor intensity for a wine with a moderate 12.6% alcohol.
About the producer

Volnay’s Domaine de Montille is one of the most historic in the Côte d’Or. Founded in 1730, the property remains family-owned and run, with Etienne de Montille – the ninth generation – at the helm today.
