I loved Yann's 2020 Hermitage, a classic, rich, yet also complex Hermitage with tons of character. Revealing a deep, saturated purple hue as well as classic blackberry and cassis fruits, it opens up beautifully with air to show more spice, leather, loamy earth, and dried flower-like nuances. Full-bodied on the palate, it starts out rather up-front and approachable yet closes down quickly, showing more tannic grip, structure, and minerality. It's a pure, balanced, incredibly impressive Hermitage that deserves 5-6 years of bottle age and will drink nicely over the following 15+.

Saturated violet color. Highly fragrant black and blue fruits, incense, vanilla, exotic spices and a strong violet note on the expressive nose, along with smoky mineral and olive nuances that emerge with air. Sappy, penetrating and animated on the palate, showing impressive depth and delineation to its sweet boysenberry, cherry liqueur, salty olive, allspice and floral pastille flavors. At once rich and lively in character, finishing with impressive power, youthfully gripping tannins and lingering spice, mineral and floral notes. Aged in new, 600 liter oak barrels.

Cask sample. Slightly reductive nose but plenty of dark-fruit substance. Dark and spicy on the palate with a note of cloves. More mid weight in style. Firm tannins but less powerful than some. Stony freshness alongside the fruit. (JL)
