Score 82/100 · Robert Parker, Jun 1994

The 1992 and 1993 Cornas are two of the lightest and least distinguished efforts Verset has produced since I began visiting him in 1980. Verset owns some of the oldest and best-placed vines in Cornas, so the fact that his wines are lighter and less concentrated than usual should demonstrate to readers just what deplorable conditions producers endured in these two years. The medium ruby-colored 1993 Cornas displays a faint perfume of black fruits, minerals, and herbs. Although the attack begins well, the wine is hollow in the middle, with light body, and a spicy, tough finish. It may fill out with additional aging in Verset's ancient foudres, but don't count on it. Importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, CA; Tel. (510) 524-1524
