Pressed in a vertical rather than a pneumatic press, the 2021 Aligoté Dorée Presse Verticale 429 is simultaneously more textural, layered and mineral than the regular bottling, and it will be worth a special effort to seek out. I hope Champy will continue to produce this cuvée.

The 2021 Bourgogne Aligoté Doré "Presse Verticale" contains a little more new oak than the regular cuvée (50%). It has a tightly knit bouquet with grapefruit, fresh lychee and honeysuckle notes that are a little more intense in style. The palate is well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity. A little new oak will need to be subsumed in time, but there is clearly sufficient fruit to do that. Excellent.
