Tasting notes
Reductive at first, this gradually reveals more rich fruit –sweet red berries, with smoke, cedar and baking spice, as well as a savoury bacon-fat quality,. The fruit is full, up front and coats the tongue with velvet tannins and warming alcohol.

The 2006 Matallana spent 15-18 months in new French oak. It is more expressive aromatically with aromas of pain grille, mineral, Asian spices, incense, and blackberry. It opens in the glass to display layers of flavor, outstanding volume, and a brooding personality. Give it 4-5 years to fully blossom and drink it through 2026. The current Telmo Rodriguez collection includes wines produced in eight different DOs, all of them fermented with native yeasts. The fact that quality ranges from excellent to outstanding is a tribute to his talent and attention to detail.
